What are the benefits of feeding sheep with pellet feed?

Feb.29.2024

For moderate-scale goat farmers or small and medium-sized goat farms, daily feeding sheep with mixed materials is labor-intensive and time-consuming. Feeding sheep with powdered materials has many disadvantages. If it can be combined with local feed resources according to the different production needs of sheep to produce pellet feed for sheep, there will be many benefits.

Generally, the ratio (%) for Boer rams is: corn meal 46, bran 20, bean cake 28, fish meal 4, bone meal 1.3, salt 0.7. According to Boer ewe (%): corn meal 53, bran 26, bean cake 18, fish meal 1, bone meal 1, salt 1. Boer lamb press (%): corn meal 48.5, bran 10, bean cake 36, fish meal 4, bone meal 1, salt 0.5.

According to the above feed formula, processed into pellet feed by a pellet feed machine and fed to sheep, it not only saves labor and improves work efficiency, but also promotes growth and development and increases the efficiency of sheep raising. Specific benefits include:

1. Save labor by manually preparing mixed materials to feed sheep. Generally, one worker can feed 28 goats. After feeding pellets, one worker can feed 36 goats due to saving in batching time, improving labor efficiency by 28.57%.

2. Save feed. Feed powdered feed to sheep, which is easy to throw and make the sheep picky eaters. The feed flies when the wind blows, causing waste and the feed utilization rate is only 92%. After switching to pellet feed, the sheep are no longer picky, and the feed utilization rate can reach 99%, increasing the feed utilization rate by 7%.

3. After processing the feed with good palatability can increase the fragrance, stimulate the goat's appetite, increase the feed intake, and improve the digestibility of the feed.

4. Promote the growth and development of sheep. Because the processed pellets have a smooth surface, high hardness, and deep ripening, sheep like to eat them, chew them fully, and have high digestion and utilization rates, which promotes the growth and development of sheep.

5. Powdered feed itself contains about 15% moisture when stored for a long time, and it is easy to absorb moisture, deteriorate and agglomerate, reducing the feeding value. After the powdered feed is processed into pellets, part of the moisture is lost. The processed pellets contain about 13% moisture, which meets the standard requirements. Under good storage conditions, the pellets can generally be stored for 3-4 months without deterioration, which is better than powdered feed. It takes 2-3 months more to feed the animal.
